Sharing lessons learned to expedite solutions

Katie Carson was very unexpectedly thrown into the caregiving world in 2001, when two of her single aunts suddenly faced the need to move from their home to an Assisted Living facility. While also trying to meet their needs of cancer treatment and recovery from a stroke, Katie found herself completely lost and afraid in her new role. With God’s grace and several earthly angels who lent their expertise and advice, Katie learned to navigate the world of legal, healthcare, financial and other aspects of caregiving. Her “boot camp” experience continued to evolve as she cared for her aunts until their passings in 2010 and 2012. In 2013, her widowed uncle became terminally ill with pulmonary fibrosis. Katie arranged for his move from his home to Senior Housing along with Palliative Care. After his passing in 2014, she worked through the process of settling his estate and clearing out and selling his house. At the end of that year, Katie assisted her cousin with the care of her aunt, who transitioned from her home to Assisted Living and then to Skilled Nursing Care over the course of two years. During this time, in 2015, Katie assumed the primary care for her own parents, who still resided in their home. With the tremendous support of her siblings, they were able to keep their parents at home until their peaceful deaths in 2020 and 2022 – both with in-home Hospice Care.

Katie has felt a calling to share her experience and knowledge with others who are facing the caregiving role – and the many scary and unexpected aspects that it brings. Just as she was helped by others to navigate the caregiving world, she wants to pay it forward in order to help ease the burden and calm the panic that others might feel in this role.

At the same time, after 23 years as a Health & Life Insurance Agent, Katie’s primary focus has been the world of Medicare. As the Baby Boomers transition into the Medicare arena, they can face unchartered waters. They must make choices that are now different from those made earlier in life, and the consequences can be much bigger. They need facts, good information and help in sorting through those choices. These days, Seniors are often bombarded with information and sales tactics – in the mail, on TV and over the internet. Often times, this information is not complete and can be deceiving. Once an initial choice is made, that decision could close doors to later opportunities. Katie can help educate Seniors on all their choices, based on their specific life and health circumstances, so that they can make their tough decisions with clear, solid guidance.

With her decades of knowledge, Katie can help Seniors, caregivers and their families navigate the way through life’s transitions.
