Larry was planning to retire in late 2026 at age 68. He had not yet signed up for Medicare Part B because he had credible coverage through his employer. It was Open Enrollment time at work, and he wasn’t sure if he should stay on his employer plan in 2026, or switch to Medicare in January 2026. After providing basic Medicare education, I guided him and his wife through a cost and coverage comparison of staying on his employer plan versus switching to Medicare in January. We also discussed the time involved to get Medicare part B in place, as well as adding a Medicare Supplement and Part D plan. By the end of our session, Larry had a plan for when he was going to enroll in Medicare Part B and other plans.
